New York Live Arts – Fondly Do We Hope… Fervently Do We Pray

Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company has since merged with Dance Theater Workshop and is now New York Live Arts.

Fondly Do We Hope… Fervently Do We Pray pays tribute to the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln’s birth.

The piece comes across as particularly dramatic with often more of an emphasis on theater than on dance. There is also a lot of back and forth between theater and dance, at least in this excerpt, taking away from a sense of continuity.

The narration also has an instructive feel to it. And certainly the piece as a whole isn’t as uplifting…as the tribute itself is, without doubt, very worthy.

If you enjoyed this video or simply appreciate the tribute to Lincoln, please like then share Fondly…, created by one of our most controversial black choreographers.
